Breakout groups by language

Hello, this is Deasún Ó Conchúir from Scatterwork. I’m here to bring you another short video about one of the benefits of virtual training. We’re talking here about replicating the traditional classroom environment with the benefit of the internet.

One of the benefits is that participants can be put into groups for discussion, or for working on activities, or developing ideas according to language. Normally in a traditional live environment, the training is carried out in one language. With the internet interface, we can group people. For example, difference offices of the same company that are sharing the same training. Though this is really good because when people are discussing, they much prefer to speak their first language and although they may well be able to interact and understand and so forth, if a presentation in, for example, in English, it does improve the discussion if people are also able to work in their own language.

So that’s a very unique advantage of the virtual training environment. Now we’ve put together a list of these benefits in a survey and we invite you to help us write these benefits by going onto the link associated with this video and giving us the benefit of your thoughts. Also, if you’ve had any specific questions that you’d like answered before going ahead with virtual training from Scatterwork, then please make sure that we’re aware of what your queries are. Thanks very much. We look forward to hearing from you.

In the modern world, the optimal solution may not be traditional face-to-face training that everybody likes and finds very effective, but virtual training. Please help us to rank our list of virtual training features: Can Virtual Training replace traditional events? (5 minute survey)

Shorter training sessions are viable

Hello, this is Deasún Ó Conchúir from Scatterwork, continuing our series of videos about the benefits of virtual training compared to face to face training. We’re not talking about webinars, but more about duplicating the normal training environment with the help of the internet.

This has lots of advantages. One of them is that it’s easier to schedule the participants. This indeed could be a reason why training can go ahead that might otherwise be impossible. It’s fairly obvious: people need only to schedule the time of the actual training, whereas any other type of physical meeting requires time to get to and from the meeting place. Even when people are in one building, that takes some time. If they’re scattered out across the world, then that’s a serious overhead.

That’s one of the benefits. We invite you to help us rank these benefits by clicking on the link of the survey associated with this video. If you have any queries before proceeding with a trial of this type of training, then please do contact us. Thanks very much.

No dead travel time

We’re not talking about webinars, but more about duplicating the normal training environment with the help of the Internet through virtual training sessions.

Virtual training has lots of advantages and one of them is that it’s easier to schedule the participants and this indeed could be a reason why training can go ahead that might otherwise be impossible. With online training there is no “dead” travel time for any party and absolutely no travel expenses that would be considered an expensive overhead.

It’s fairly obvious; people need only to schedule the time of the actual training, whereas any other type of physical meeting requires time to get to and from the meeting place. Even when people are in one building that takes some time. But if they’re scattered out across the world then that’s a serious overhead. So that’s one of the benefits. We would ask you and invite you to help us rank these benefits by clicking on the link of the survey associated with this video. Virtual Training is easier to schedule

Hello, this is Deasún Ó Conchúir from Scatterwork, to continue our series of videos about the benefits of virtual training in comparison to face to face training. We are not talking about webinars, but more specifically, about duplicating the normal training environment with the help of the Internet.

Virtual training has lots of advantages. One of them is that it’s easier to schedule with participants. This indeed could be a reason why training can be completed that might otherwise be impossible. This benefit of virtual training may be fairly obvious. People need only to schedule the time of the actual training, whereas any other type of physical meeting requires time to get to and from the meeting place. Even when people are in the same location, meeting face to face is time consuming. If participants are scattered out across the world then that can cost a serious overhead.

Virtual training has many benefits and this is one of the best advantages. We would like to invite you to help us rank the benefits of virtual training by clicking on the link of the survey associated with this video. If you have any inquiries before proceeding with a trial of this type of training, then please do contact us. Thanks very much.

Virtual Workshop Environment Introduction

Virtual Workshop Environment Introduction

Dr. Deasun introduces his virtual workshop environment, the perfect platform for project management and team training. You can view the video or read the text of the video below. Enjoy!

Text of video:

Hello, I’m Dr. Deasún Ó Conchúir from Scatterwork, and I’m here to introduce our virtual workshop environment, which we use for project management and team training. Each participant team of four has access to a project simulator like you see on the screen in front of you, and these teams run in parallel.

Each team is connected by its own web conference, and the web conferences of the different teams are also connected together so that when there are discussions about learning and coordination and so forth they can be done by everybody together, so several teams run in parallel.

The teams find that when they move into this that they have a project which has been partially planned, and the challenge is to adjust the plan so that the project can complete in the eleven scheduled weeks and within budget.

You’ll see some people have already been assigned to tasks, and the grey bar is the original plan, but when they assign people maybe the critical path gets longer, because for example maybe somebody has been assigned when they’re not available.

The people available to us we see here, and we can see the activity network here, and we can also see the budget. All those databases are updated live as we make assignment changes. I’ll make one here, for example, we might say on activity seven we’d like to apply Fred, so we go into Fred, and we put him on activity seven, and when we go back to the Gantt Chart we see his name was already added in.

Let’s go back to the office. The way it works is that each team plans like that, it takes maybe an hour or so of interaction, and they try and put it together so that when the project simulation runs they have a reasonable chance of finishing in the target time.

Then the clock is started, I’m just doing that now. You’ll notice that the clock here in the top left hand corner is beginning to tick away. While it’s ticking away, we can still continue with the planning, but sometimes we get held back in our tracks because messages come in. You can hear the knocking on the door, the lady comes in and she has a message.

The first message is “The project team suggests a two hour kickoff meeting.” Then we have four options, the team will discuss these options and decide which one it likes, and then vote on one of them. Then it will get advice from the coach, in this case they didn’t make the very best decision. While we’re doing that, time is still ticking, and you can see this green bar here represents the real time. The first simulation runs for about ninety minutes and then all teams stop and each team debriefs.

This is where the learning is from, experience. Did we have a good project manager? Was our communication good between ourselves? Did we agree? Did we make good decisions when we had options presented to us? These four answer environments, and so on. Then we can come together as a big team, all the teams in parallel will also come back and learn from each other.

That’s one of the reasons that this is a synchronous training method, because people learn from each other in a very dynamic way by interacting, mainly by voice over IP. Then they go into a second planning cycle, and the simulator runs much faster the second time. Whichever team gets there first stops the simulation, and then we come back and we have another debriefing session.

That’s the basis of it, it’s experiential learning, and it brings real results and is much liked by the participants. We hope you’re going to join in, thanks very much.
